Video 3 : The Sallie House

The Sallie House was originally built in 1871 in Atchison, Kansas. It was just another ordinary home for many years, sheltering several families and witnessing decades of history. However, the dark legend of the house did not begin until the 1990s.

In December 1992, a young couple, Tony and Debra Pickman, moved into the house. Excited to begin a new chapter of their lives, they decorated the house with love and care. The most special room in the house was the nursery, where they planned to welcome their soon-to-be-born baby.

Little did they know that this house was already occupied—by something unseen. Their dream of a peaceful life soon turned into a nightmare.

Their pet dog was the first to sense something unusual in the house. From the moment they moved in, the dog acted strangely, especially near the baby’s room.

The couple noticed how the dog would often stand in the doorway of the nursery, barking aggressively at something invisible. Sometimes, it refused to enter the room at all. Other times, it would suddenly start whimpering and run away, as if scared by an unseen force.

Tony and Debra brushed it off as an adjustment issue, assuming the dog was just getting used to the new environment. But they would soon realize that their pet had been sensing something beyond their understanding—something dark.

At first, the disturbances were small. Tony and Debra noticed strange occurrences but didn’t think much of them. Lights would flicker on and off by themselves, objects would move slightly, and sometimes they would hear faint whispers in the dead of night.

But as days turned into weeks, the strange incidents escalated.

  • The lights didn’t just flicker—they turned on and off violently.
  • Objects didn’t just move—they were thrown across the room.
  • The whispers turned into loud voices, echoing through the house.

The air in the house started to feel heavy, as if an unseen force was constantly watching them.

One night, Debra woke up to a suffocating feeling. The room was unusually cold, and she felt an eerie presence around her. She turned her head slightly and froze in horror—dark, shadowy figures stood at the foot of their bed.

She tried to scream but found herself paralyzed. The figures did not move, but their presence was overwhelming. She could feel their intense gaze piercing through the darkness.

After what felt like an eternity, the figures slowly faded away, leaving behind a chilling silence. When she finally managed to move, she shook Tony awake and told him what had happened. Though he tried to reassure her, he too was beginning to feel that something sinister was lurking in their home.

The nursery soon became the center of most paranormal activity. Every night, their baby would cry for no reason, refusing to sleep. Debra often had the feeling that someone was watching over the crib, even when she was alone.

One day, Tony walked into the nursery and was stunned—every single toy was scattered across the floor. He clearly remembered cleaning up the room earlier, so he picked up all the toys again, placed them neatly on the shelves, and left.

However, as he was walking downstairs, he heard a loud noise from the nursery. Rushing back, he found the toys scattered all over the floor once again—just as they had been before.

A deep sense of fear crept into his heart. He now knew that they were not alone in the house.

One evening, as Tony and Debra stood outside, an elderly neighbor approached them with a grave expression.

“I’ve seen your nursery light turn on by itself every night at 2 AM,” she said.

Tony and Debra exchanged nervous glances. They had stopped using the nursery weeks ago. The light should not have been on.

The neighbor went on to reveal that previous owners had also complained about strange happenings in the house. Some even claimed to have seen the ghostly figure of a young girl.

This revelation sent chills down their spines.

The hauntings soon turned violent. One night, Tony was sitting alone in the living room when he suddenly felt a searing pain on his back. He let out a loud scream, and Debra ran to him.

When she lifted his shirt, she gasped—deep claw marks covered his back, as if someone had scratched him with long, sharp nails. But there was no one else in the room.

The attacks did not stop there. Tony often woke up with fresh wounds, his body bearing the marks of an unseen entity.

Desperate for answers, the couple contacted a paranormal investigator named Barbara Connor.

Barbara conducted a detailed investigation and uncovered chilling information—the house was haunted by the spirit of a little girl named Sallie.

According to local history, a young girl named Sallie had once lived there and had died under tragic circumstances. Some reports suggested that she had passed away due to a failed surgery, while others believed that darker forces were at play.

Regardless of the cause, Sallie’s spirit had never left the house.

At first, the Pickmans believed that Sallie was simply a lost spirit looking for help. They assumed that since she was a child, she was harmless.

However, paranormal experts believed otherwise. They suspected that the entity in the house was not Sallie, but something much darker—a demonic presence that had taken on the appearance of an innocent girl to deceive the living.

This theory explained why the hauntings had escalated from simple disturbances to violent attacks.

  • Tony continued to wake up with scratches.
  • Strange symbols appeared on the walls overnight.
  • The house’s air grew thick with an unshakable sense of dread.

The Pickmans had unknowingly welcomed an evil force into their home.

After months of terror, Tony and Debra could take no more. The final straw came when Tony suffered another brutal attack, leaving him hospitalized.

Realizing their lives were in danger, they decided to leave the house for good. They packed their belongings and never returned.

Even today, the Sallie House remains one of the most haunted locations in the world. Paranormal investigators, ghost hunters, and thrill-seekers continue to explore its eerie history. Some claim to have witnessed the spirit of Sallie, while others believe that an ancient, demonic force still resides there.

What do you think? Was Sallie’s spirit real, or was something far more sinister lurking in that house?

And the most chilling question of all—would you dare to spend a night inside the haunted Sallie House?

Story 2 : The haunted ventriloquist doll

When Marty was a child back in the '90s, she tells "Monsters Among Us" that she was a fan of ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and his dummy sidekick, Charlie McCarthy.

She says that when her father came across a ventriloquist doll as he wandered through a small magic shop located outside of Santa Rosa, California, he decided to buy it for her birthday.

While ringing up the sale, Marty says the cashier gave her father "weird vibes" and said to him: "You know when you put your hand inside the doll, he's going to come alive."

Laughing off the comment, he brought the dummy home to his daughter.

According to Marty, she was over the moon when he dad gave her the doll, saying: “I was so happy when I got that doll, I was obsessed.”

But before long, strange things began happening. Though impossible because the doll's head was made of hard plastic, she says its expression would change, including his smile.

Worried something would happen to her precious dummy, Marty's family shut it away in a cupboard most nights. One night, she and her family were awakened by the "pitter patter" of steps in their living room. Thinking it was the dog or another family member, they went to look.

No one was there. Except for the doll, who was sitting on the couch.

"We remember specifically we always put it away because I loved that doll so much that I took care of it," Marty says on the podcast.

Other strange occurrences began happening. While Marty and her dad were away, her uncle was alone in the house. The uncle says he heard Marty's father calling his name from the living room, even though he wasn't home.

When he went to look? He found the doll, once again, sitting on the couch. And no one else.

"All of our family was pretty much scared of the doll," Marty says. "People would start hearing their names being called, and we would hear walking at night. So, we just decided we needed to get rid of it."

Being Mexican and religious, Marty says her parents wanted to burn the doll in case it was demonic. They put it on the grill and, according to Marty, it wouldn't burn. "This doll would not go up in flames, at all, whatsoever."

They tried cutting it up with a knife, but were unsuccessful. Finally, they threw it in the trash can. After the garbage was collected, Marty's dad went to retrieve the bin.

In it? The doll.

To rid themselves of the dummy, they dug a hole in the backyard, then filled it with cement.

Marty and family have long-since moved away, but she says they still think about the doll and the possibility that eventually "it finds one of us."
